The origin of worry beads or 'misbaha' date back to the 9th century.  The original purpose was to aid the devout in remembering the number of times a particular invocation or supplication should be said.  Beads such as these have been used in every major relgion around the world.  In the Arab world, they are used primarily to aid prayer (through expressing thankfulness and glory to Almighty God), but also for meditation, as a literal way to 'count one's blessings', and also to relieve nervousness or agitation.  Worry beads are so deeply engrained in the culture that they can serve as an extension of ones' personality. Part of the personality of Princess Dalal is expressed as a deeply devout Muslim.  Thus the personal signifigance of these beautiful items hold special significance to her and are a function of her daily religious practice, which is the lifeblood and foundation of who she is.
